Impact in The Community

Brianna is a single mother of two children. The past few months had been rough for her with losing her home and struggling to get back on her feet. She had reached out to local family services but she was denied. She was referred to Mommy and Me by a relative who recently used our services. Brianna came in and spoke with our founder and she then later applied. She was approved. Within two days of applying for our housing assistance, we were able to help Brianna with resources to finding a new home and furnishing her new home!

This past year has been extremely rough for me and my two kids. From losing our house, bouncing around from family member’s house; and just struggling to get back on my feet has been by far the hardest, especially as a single mom.  After losing my house I reached out to family services to see if I could get any assistance I was rejected, even though I worked and could still barely afford living expenses; they felt as if I didn’t need the help. A close friend had told me about an organization that specifically works with working mothers who need extra help. At this point I felt my situation would never get better, but what’s one more No? I contacted Mommy and Me and came in for an intake interview with Ms. Brown. I applied the same day and I was eligible and right away they started working with me. I was given resources and referrals for housing for single mothers in my situation. Within the next day the Ms. Brown called me with a referral for housing, I applied and was approved. A day later I called to thank everyone, and was asked if I had everything needed for our new home. I explained to them how I lost everything leaving my old house, but I would work on things and I was just happy to have a home for my family.  Ms. Brown insisted they would help, her exact words were “give me a hour to make a few call and I’ll get you squared away”. Sure enough she called back and informed they had just received donations from a volunteer who was clearing out there home. Within the next day I had a couch and living room set, new beds for my kids and a bunch of household items to start me off. I’m very thankful to have met everyone at Mommy and Me. Everyone there was kind and compassionate and made sure I was able to use all the resources available to help me.
