Our History
Mommy and Me is a Christ-centered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving single mother–led households. Founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2019. Mommy and Me exists to break cycles of poverty by addressing the root causes of housing instability and economic vulnerability affecting working single mothers who often earn too much to qualify for government assistance, yet not enough to achieve lasting self-sufficiency. Since inception, Mommy and Me has supported over 300 single mother-led households through financial assistance, resource navigation, and holistic family support. In 2025, the organization operates as a comprehensive, partnership-driven model focused on housing risk prevention, economic mobility, and whole-family well-being.
Our work is not crisis-only intervention.
It is prevention, stabilization, and transformation.
Mommy and Me was founded in 2019 by Erica Brown, whose personal journey inspired the organization's mission.
As a working single mother, Our founder and President, Erica Brown, experienced homelessness, housing instability, childcare challenges, and financial barriers firsthand. Despite working hard and doing everything she could to provide for her family, she encountered gaps in systems designed to help families in need.
Through those experiences, she gained a deep understanding of the challenges many single mothers face and recognized the need for solutions that focus on prevention rather than crisis response alone.
What once felt like hardship became preparation:
Preparation to understand the realities of housing instability.
Preparation to recognize how poverty and policy intersect.
Preparation to create meaningful solutions for working single mothers.
Preparation to build a program that supports families before they reach crisis.
Mommy and Me was created so that no mother would have to navigate those challenges alone.
Today, the organization has supported hundreds of single mother-led households throughout Cincinnati and the Greater Tri-State region, helping families achieve greater stability, independence, and hope for the future.
